•   Why is there a cost to adopt? 

The city council decided to ask residents, groups and business’ to participate in this program on a voluntarily bases so no tax dollars would be used. The adoption fee will pay for the paint.

•  Can I adopt more than one hydrant?
 Yes, you can, each adoption is $30.00 for a five year period.  

•  Do I have to get an approval for my design?
Yes, when you apply for adoption papers a brief description of what you plan on doing will be submitted.

•  Can I name my hydrant?
 Yes, be creative and have fun. If you chose to name your hydrant the name will appear on your adoption paper.

•  Can I loose my right to adoption?
 Yes you can, by not maintaining the area around the hydrant.  Remember keeping the grass down and the snow away is a benefit to your neighborhood or business.

 

•  Can I use other colors other than the suggested ones?
 Yes, but the cost is totally your responsibility.  Remember visibility is very important.

•  Can I change my design before the five years are up?
 Yes, but the additional Valspar paint will not be covered by your initial adoption cost you will have to re-adopt.

•  How will I know which hydrants are available?
On the Fire Departments web page you can check on addresses of available hydrants to adopt and see which ones have been adopted.

Please note this information will not be available until after June 15th until then contact Kathy at city hall she will be able to help you locate an available hydrant.

•  What if I want to see other hydrants?
When available, the city can give you a list of addresses so you can admire the creativity of your fellow painters.
