The Dining Room is typical of the look of the 1940s and remains unchanged since the Stork family lived there. Of special note are the blue dishes that are on display in the hutch. They are English bone china in the Blue Siam pattern. These dishes belonged to the Florida family (the second family to live in the house), as do the dishes that grace the dining room table. Both sets of dishes date from about the turn of the century. Ask a guide about the set of dishes on the table to hear an amazing story of how they got there.
When you come to visit, note the painted pictures on either side of the mantle. Mr. Stork’s sister, Florence, who attended an art school in Minneapolis, did these paintings. Take a close look at the portrait of the geisha girl next to the hutch. This is a portrait of Wanda Gag, author of the children’s book, Millions of Cats. Wanda was in the same art class as Florence Stork and posed for the class.
