The ctiy was awared a MN Beautiful grant this year through the Initiative Foundation and Valspar Corp. Volunteers have been painting a historic mural on a downtown building at the corner of Bridge & Mechanic Streets. The mural captures old industrial buildings from the 1880 & early 1900’s such as the sawmill, woolen mill and flour mill. These businesses were along the Crow River and were in operation for half a century and products were well know around the state.
The city wants to thank all of the volunteers who worked on this project: Kelly Grimm, Peter Grimm, Cheryl Barningham, Becky Bills, Heidi Erickson, Joanne Foust, Julie Hinds, Denise Kesanen, Brian Kesanen, Julie Lyrek, Dave Mottet, Renee Mottet, Sean Mottet, Sheila Vanderlinde, Rachel Yakesh and Sydney Yakesh.
At the September 13th council meeting the Rockford Area Athletic Association (RAAA) presented a deal that the city council could not turn down. The city is in the beginning stages of designing a new park in the Parkwood neighborhood. RAAA saw this as an opportunity for development of a new baseball field, which is needed as the program continues to grow. RAAA presented their plans to the city coucnil and stated that through grants, donations and volunteers that they are willing to develop the baseball field for the city in the Parkwood Park. The city council gave their approval to the concept plan contingent upon approval of an agreement between RAAA and the City.
