2021 DNR Drought Warning / Rockford Plan Summary
On July 16, 2021 the DNR implemented a Drought Warning Phase. This requires all public water suppliers (like the City of Rockford) to implement water reduction measures to reduce water usage and protect the city’s water systems and resources.
Effective immediately, we are asking the community to voluntarily limit outdoor water use (sprinkler systems, irrigation, etc.) as much as possible while we continue to gather data and monitor water usage in our city. We have also asked the Community Home Owner Associations and Commercial / Industrial businesses with lawns to drastically limit or end watering common area property to help conserve water. If we are able to significantly reduce our overall water usage, no further action will be necessary.
If we are unable to voluntarily curb non-essential water usage and reduce our overall gallons of water used per week, additional restrictive measures will be required. These may include prohibitions or restrictions on outdoor water usage or even a complete outdoor watering ban until the Drought Warning Phase is ended.
Thank you for your help in protecting the city’s water supply and resources. We appreciate your support.
