Maple Street Closure Update

We are getting close to the end of the first week of the closure of Maple Street and the impact it has had on the Autumn Oaks Drive intersection. We have increased the presence of law enforcement, a reader board sign will be installed west of Autumn Oaks Drive to help slow traffic heading towards the intersection, and have people helping to direct traffic to turn right during the morning commute. Here are some notes to help traffic flow more smoothly based upon observations over the past few days:

  • The most critical time for traffic delay is between 7 and 8 a.m. If you are able, please plan to leave earlier or later to avoid that early morning rush hour.
  • Do not attempt to take a left turn during these high traffic times. Attempting to turn left creates longer delays for everyone in line. Take the right turn and follow the detour or use a different route to turn around and travel west on Highway 55 towards Buffalo.
  • Please be attentive and not on your cell phone. Being attentive and driving safely will speed up the process and help everyone get to their destinations faster.

At this time, the Maple Street Project is still on schedule. We are hopeful that Maple Street will be open again on Monday, September 19th. Maple Street will be under construction, but it will be passable once opened. This will relieve some of the pressure on the Autumn Oaks Drive intersection. We will provide updates on that as we move forward.

As a final note, if you have questions, comments or concerns contact City Project Engineer, Adam Noreen: adam.noreen@stantec.com. They are in the best position to answer your questions. We appreciate your patience through this 2022 Infrastructure Improvement Project.
